Are John Deere die cast metal replicas considered toys for kids to play with or collectibles?
As you start searching for a vintage or any pre-owned tractor for your farm, there are one or two points you have to remember. First, never get caught up by nostalgia. Acquiring and restoring an antique tractor can be a great fulfilling hobby. Nonetheless it may become an expensive one.
My wife and I are having a disagreement about toys to get kids this Christmas. Before her and I got together she was used to buying her 2 boys the metal replicas of John Deere tractors and such for them to play with. But at a piece and up I think that is way to much to spend on one toy. I believe that they are for collectors and for the people that use them in models and display scale models. She says that the plastic John Deere toys tear up and get broken too easily. What are your thoughts?

They are toys some collect. The real collectible farm toys are either the odd piece of machinery they only made a few of or the high end detailed tractor that start in the hundred dollar range and go up from there. Remember those die cast toy tractors take a beating with normal play and won’t be broke and useless the day after they get them.
I agree with you. They are definately collectibles. It would be ok to get them for your kid if they agree to leave them untouched in the box…..not likely.
