How to raise/lower the 62D mower deck on a John Deere 4115 Tractor?

As you start searching for a vintage or virtually any pre-owned tractor for use on your farm, there are some things you'll want to take into account. To start with, try not to become carried away from nostalgia. Getting and rebuilding an antique tractor may be a wonderful rewarding hobby. However it also can develop into a really expensive one.

wbach asked:

My Aunt and Uncle hired me to mow their yard and sometimes I need to travel across a paved road. How do I raise the mower deck so the Wheels on the deck don't get chewed up when going across the road ? My Aunt & Uncle can't find the Manual for this mower deck. I have the Operator's Manual for the John Deere 4115 Tractor but, there is no info on raising / lowering the deck

Before beginning to search for your tractor, make sure you know what you genuinely would like. This might appear overly simple, but it is easy to get side tracked and acquire something which you did not start out to buy. Only once you are able to make an itemized list of the requirements should you begin the search. Do not forget to include your technical and performance requirements in your listing. If you do not know just what you will be searching for, how are you going to decide how and where to search?

If you are seriously hunting for a vintage tractor, be careful and not allow enthusiasm run away with you. If you do, you could well be in trouble before you start the project. Restoring an antique tractor or other old farm implement is gratifying. But it isn't an overnight project plus it might become pricey quite fast. Parts for a lot of aged tractors are available but some are tough to find and may be on the spendy side. Original tires might be difficult to locate and replica tires might cost more than your tractor. You may well find that instead of purchasing a project tractor, it would be just as satisfying to buy one that somebody else has already put all of the time, effort and expense into. Odds are favorable that you could purchase it for a lesser amount of cash than the owner put into it, to say nothing of all of his labor.

Test the tractor prior to deciding to acquire it. Do you find it simple to get started and appear, sound and feel right? Are the tires in good shape? Is there any hydraulic leakage evident? Do you see any missing pieces or equipment? Make certain and give equally close an inspection to any attachments. Last but not least, be sure that a classic tractor really fits the requirements of the job you desire it for. It's tough to go wrong with an antique tractor like a John Deere if you search carefully.

On the smaller tractors all you have to do is push or pull the top lever on the right side of the steering wheel. If it seems as the deck doesn’t go low enough you can re-position the pins in the wheels, so that they do not touch the ground, when the deck is in the “up” position (just take the pins out & place them into another hole father down). If the deck isn’t moving up or down, then re-check the manuel. It might not be hooked-up right. The Back wheels are only there for uneven terrain. The deck is supposed to “float” even while down. When all else fails call the 1-800 they give you, or go to the local dealer & let them show you.
Good Luck!!
