Only after you are able to prepare a complete list of your requirements should you commence your hunt. Don't forget to include your technical and performance requirements in the list. If you do not know exactly what you are searching for, how are you going to determine where and how to look?

If you are sincerely hunting for an antique tractor, be careful and not let enthusiasm get the best of you. If you do, you may well be in trouble before you begin your project. Rebuilding an antique tractor or other old farm implement is satisfying. But it is not an overnight project moreover it is able to become expensive quite swiftly. Parts for a lot of older tractors are obtainable but some are hard to locate and may be on the spendy side. Original tires may be difficult to find and reproduction tires may cost more than your tractor. You may find that instead of buying a project tractor, it would be just as gratifying to buy one that someone else has previously put all of the time, effort and expense into. Chances are good that you could acquire it for a lesser amount of cash than the owner put into it, to say nothing about all of his labor.

Try the tractor before you decide to buy it. Do you find it easy to start and look, solid and feel right? Are the tires in good shape? Is there any hydraulic leakage visible? Do you observe any missing parts or accessories? Be sure and give equally close an inspection to any attachments. Finally, be sure that an antique tractor genuinely fits the requirements of the job you want it for. It is hard to go wrong with an antique tractor like a John Deere if you search cautiously.

Would be helpful to know if this is a walk-behind and, if so, a single or two-stage. Or is it a 42" attachment for a tractor?

    John Deere’s website homepage is:

    http://www.deere.com/en_US/ag/servicesupport/index.html

You may find operation & parts manuals there and all the info you need to contact someone from Deere.

    Good luck!
