Prior to your beginning to look for your tractor, make sure that you understand what you genuinely want. This might seem overly simple, however it is easy to get side tracked and buy something which you didn't start out to buy. Only once you are able to prepare a detailed listing of your requirements should you begin the hunt. Do not forget to add your technical and performance requirements in your listing. Unless you understand just what you will be searching for, how are you going to decide how and where to search?

If you are seriously looking for a vintage tractor, be careful and not allow enthusiasm run away with you. If you do, you may well be in difficulty before you begin your project. Restoring an antique tractor or other old farm implement is rewarding. Nevertheless it's not an overnight project furthermore it might get expensive very swiftly. Parts for a lot of old tractors are available however some are challenging to find and may be on the spendy side. Original tires might be impossible to find and reproduction tires might cost more than the tractor. You may well find that instead of purchasing a project tractor, it would be just as satisfying to buy one which somebody else has already put all of the effort, expense and time into. Odds are favorable that you could buy it for less money than the owner put into it, to say nothing about all of his labor.

Test any tractor before you buy it. Is it simple to start and look, sound and feel right? Are the tires in good shape? Is there any hydraulic leakage apparent? Do you notice any missing components or accessories? Make sure and give just as close an inspection to any attachments. Last but not least, make sure that a vintage tractor seriously fulfills the requirements of the task you want it for. It is hard to go wrong with an antique tractor such as a John Deere if you search carefully.

seeing the JD A or maybe B?…anyway, without a wheel…reminded me of when we were plowing…I noticed the wheel slowly making its way outward…so we had to jack that wheel up and use a sledge hammer to move it back…the good old days :) hmm, not all from the UK, right?
