Old Tractor-Dennis Doyle

When you start trying to find a vintage or any pre-owned tractor for use on your farm, there are a couple of things you have to take into account. To start with, try not to become captivated by nostalgia. Acquiring and rejuvenating an old tractor can be a delightful gratifying hobby to engage in. Nonetheless it may turn out to be an expensive one.

Dennis Doyle - Old Tractors Pictures

Before starting to look for your tractor, be sure you understand what you really want. This may seem too basic, but it is easy to become side tracked and buy something which you didn't start out to purchase. Only if you are able to prepare a complete list of your requirements should you start your hunt. Don't forget to include the technical and performance requirements in your listing. If you do not understand precisely what you're hunting for, how are you going to determine where and how to search?

If you are sincerely searching for a vintage tractor, be careful and not permit enthusiasm get the best of you. If you do, you might well be in trouble before you start the project. Restoring an antique tractor or other old farm implement is gratifying. But it is not an overnight project and it is able to get costly very quickly. Parts for lots of old tractors are obtainable but some are tough to locate and may be on the spendy side. Original tires might be difficult to find and replica tires can cost more than the tractor. You might find that rather than buying a project tractor, it would be just as satisfying to procure one that someone else has previously put all of the time, effort and expense into. Chances are favorable that you could acquire it for a lesser amount of money than the owner put into it, to say nothing of all of his labor.

Test any tractor before you decide to acquire it. Is it easy to get started and look, sound and feel right? Are the tires in good shape? Is there any hydraulic leakage visible? Can you notice any missing parts or accessories? Be sure and give just as close an inspection to any attachments. As a final point, make certain that an antique tractor truly meets the requirements of the job you desire it for. It truly is hard to go wrong with an antique tractor such as a John Deere if you shop carefully.

Three of those pictures are from the book by Garvey called The tractor in the Haystack. What is the connection to your video and this book. The reason I wonder is because the same pictures in the book are Black and White and yours are in color. John

Wow cool this guy is in the first chapter of the Tractor in the Haystack book. I’m reading it now and loving every minute of it. Due to financial difficulties I’ve walked sadly past many tractors sitting in fences and under trees in my 44 years living in Oklahoma. Makes me want to cry everytime. Same with old cars sitting in bushes. I love Roger Welsch my hero and fellow AC lover.
