Old Tractors For Plowing

Prior to starting looking for a classic or virtually any pre-owned tractor for use on your farm, there are a number of items you should consider. First, don't become caught up by nostalgia. Obtaining and restoring an old tractor can be a great pleasing pastime. But it can also turn out to be a costly one.

Here are 3 old tractors in a parking lot waiting for their next snow removal job. First up is a Case loader with a snow scoop. Next is an old Trojan bucket loader and an old road grader.

Before starting to look for your tractor, make sure that you know what you really would like. This may well seem too basic, nevertheless it is easy to become side tracked and buy something which you didn't start out to purchase. Only if you are able to create an itemized listing of the requirements should you begin your search. Do not forget to incorporate the technical and performance requirements in your list. Unless you know exactly what you're hunting for, how are you going to decide how and where to look?

If you are seriously looking for an antique tractor, be careful and not permit enthusiasm run away with you. If you do, you might well be in trouble before you begin your project. Rebuilding an antique tractor or other old farm implement is rewarding. Nevertheless it isn't an overnight project moreover it might get expensive quite quickly. Parts for a lot of old tractors are obtainable but some are tough to find and can be on the spendy side. Original tires may be impossible to purchase and replica tires might cost more than the tractor. You might discover that rather than buying a project tractor, it would be just as fulfilling to procure one which someone else has already put all of the effort, expense and time into. Chances are favorable that you could buy it for less money than the owner put into it, to say nothing about all of his labor.

Test the tractor prior to deciding to purchase it. Do you find it easy to get started and look, solid and feel right? Are the tires in good shape? Is there any kind of hydraulic leakage noticeable? Can you see any missing parts or accessories? Be certain and give just as close an inspection to any attachments. As a final point, make certain that a vintage tractor really satisfies the needs of the task you want it for. It's difficult to go wrong with an antique tractor like a John Deere if you search carefully.
