My wife and I are having a disagreement about toys to get kids this Christmas. Before her and I got together she was used to buying her 2 boys the metal replicas of John Deere tractors and such for them to play with. But at a piece and up I think that is way to much to spend on one toy. I believe that they are for collectors and for the people that use them in models and display scale models. She says that the plastic John Deere toys tear up and get broken too easily. What are your thoughts?

Prior to looking for your tractor, make sure that you understand what you really want. This may possibly seem overly basic, however it is easy to get side tracked and buy something which you did not start out to buy. Only once you are able to make a complete listing of the requirements should you start the hunt. Do not forget to add the technical and performance requirements in your list. If you do not understand exactly what you will be searching for, how are you going to decide where and how to look?

If you are seriously searching for an antique tractor, be careful and not permit enthusiasm get the best of you. If you do, you might well be in trouble before beginning your project. Rebuilding an antique tractor or other old farm implement is satisfying. But it is not an overnight project and it might become expensive very quickly. Parts for lots of aged tractors are obtainable but some are hard to locate and can be on the spendy side. Original tires could be difficult to find and replica tires might cost more than the tractor. You may well find that rather than buying a project tractor, it would be just as fulfilling to procure one which somebody else has previously put all of the effort, expense and time into. Chances are good that you could buy it for less cash than the owner put into it, to say nothing about all of his labor.

Test any tractor before you acquire it. Is it easy to get started and appear, solid and feel right? Are the tires in good shape? Is there any hydraulic leakage noticeable? Do you detect any missing parts or accessories? Make sure and give just as close an inspection to any attachments. Finally, make certain that a vintage tractor really meets the needs of the job you desire it for. It truly is hard to go wrong with an antique tractor like a John Deere if you search cautiously.
