Vintage Farm Equipment And John Deere Tractors

How To Find John Deere Equipment

If you have a tractor or a combine or any other large piece of farm machinery manufactured by John Deere, you're definitely going to need some equipment to go with it. The thing is, there's so much to choose from that you're excused if your first reaction is bewilderment. Don't panic, we're here to help!

One place to go is the John Deere official website. It actually has a special section where you can click to find equipment for your machine - they call it "Equipment Quickfind". Neat, huh? You can click your way through the categories, like cotton pickers, rotary cutters, industrial diesel engines, irrigation engines and potato shredders, until you find the piece of equipment you are looking for. Quite possible you won't have to go any further.

There's a slight drawback though - cost. Although John Deere may have all the additions you're looking for to add to your machine, the official dealers aren't exactly cheap. If you need to save money, here's what we suggest: Use the wonders of the web to locate a used, second hand or reconditioned part instead!

There are several websites out there suitable for finding equipment that still has lots of used left for a fraction of the original cost. Auction web sites like eBay is one choice you can make, but I recommend that you shop around a bit first. Don't settle for the first website you find. Try searching Google using phrases like "refurbished John Deere equipment" or "cheap John Deere parts" and see what you come up with. You'll be able to save thousands of dollars.

There is a bunch of sites out there that will list farm equipment for sale or four auction, and many of them also have decent search functions that help you locate the exact machinery and brand you are looking for. But do your own due diligence and search around, and you will find a site you like.

Antique Tractor Show Farmall, John Deere, Minneapolis

Get a feel for the "golden oldie" days of agriculture at the 31st Annual Camp Creek Threshers Antique Machinery and Threshing Show. This DVD contains video and photographs of Farmall, International Harvester, and John Deere tractors, water pumps, a saw mill, a corn sheller, balers, steam engines, a miniature railroad, and other antique farm equipment. This years theme was Farmall, but there are many other models of tractors in the show. What show would be complete without a good old-fashioned threshing demonstration? From the 1800's to the early 1900's this was the way that the grain was harvested from the plant. An outfit would consist of a threshing machine and a separate tractor to power it. Wheat, oats, and other crops were fed into the threshing machine by hand and pitchfork where the grain was separated from the rest of the plant. John Deere, mccormick Deering, Allis Chalmers, Case, Rumely, Minneapolis-Moline, American Harvester, Oliver, Catepiller, and others can be seen. Several hundred gas tractors and crawlers and several steam engines can be seen in action each year. These are the tractors that ushered in modern farming to the United States. Besides the many pieces of equipment to be powered by these great machines there is also the daily parade of power which is always a great crowd pleaser. This DVD contains 3 videos. The exhibits video is 15 minutes long. The tractor show is 30 minutes long, and the slide show is 5 minutes long. That's a total of 50 minutes ...

Are John Deere die cast metal replicas considered toys for kids to play with or collectibles?

My wife and I are having a disagreement about toys to get kids this Christmas. Before her and I got together she was used to buying her 2 boys the metal replicas of John Deere tractors and such for them to play with. But at a piece and up I think that is way to much to spend on one toy. I believe that they are for collectors and for the people that use them in models and display scale models. She says that the plastic John Deere toys tear up and get broken too easily. What are your thoughts?

Which is better– old John Deere paint or the new John Deere paint?

I can buy both. I am working on painting several two cylinder John Deere tractors. Which paint is better in quality? Lasts longest? More durable? Least resistant to fading?

What would be a good starter John Deere Tractor Project?

My young son is totally into John Deere Tractors. I am thinking about getting a 30 hp antique model to play around on. One that needs some TLC, but not one that needs to be broken in half for a ground up restoration.

If you were going to start with that, with a good stand blasting and coat of paint, ease of finding parts, and ease of entry, what would be a good John Deere tractor to start off with?
The tractor is more for Daddy right now, but would like to be able to have stuff like this in the backyard so I my son progresses, he will have an understanding and appreciation. I am not getting it so he can operate on his own.

How do I sketch a John Deere tractor as realistically as possible?

I am making a watercolour present for a friend who has a passion for the old, classic John Deere tractors. The problem is, I have never seen one in my life (aside from staring at pictures on the Internet), and I can't get my sketches to look right. Is there anything I can do?
